Mahama Fears Coup d’etat If He Fails Ghanaians – Domelevo Reveals

Former Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has revealed that President John Mahama privately expressed fears of a possible coup d’état in Ghana should he fail to deliver on his promises to the people.

Speaking to Nana Jantuah on Nhyira FM’s Morning Show, Mr. Domelevo said the President made this statement during a private meeting aimed at discussing governance, accountability, and the fight against corruption.

“He said if he fails to deliver good governance, he knows there could be a coup in Ghana, and that he and other former presidents might be targeted. He emphasized that this is his biggest fear,” revealed Mr. Domelevo.

According to him, the President’s remark reflects his awareness of growing public frustration and the urgent need for responsive leadership.

“President Mahama told me in a private meeting that he was deeply concerned after witnessing how Ghanaians celebrated Burkina Faso’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, during his visit to Ghana. Ghanaians are demanding leadership more than just democracy,” Mr. Domelevo emphasized.

He added that the recent coup in Burkina Faso serves as a reminder that no nation is completely immune to political instability. The renowned anti-corruption crusader stressed the need to empower state institutions with adequate logistics and the necessary legislation to effectively combat corruption.

“I told President Mahama, and I will say it again, that no nation is immune to a coup, but it depends on how the system is run. We need strong institutions to be able to fight corruption. The institutions are there, just empower them,” he indicated.
