Hearts of Oak recorded back-to-back 1-0 victories in the Ghana Premier League after edging Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.
The Phobians started brightly, and their early pressure was rewarded in the 17th minute when Enock Asubonteng pounced on a loose ball inside the box and fired home following a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick.
It was a mirror image of their previous outing against Dreams FC, where a single goal was also enough to seal all three points. The win temporarily lifted Hearts to the top of the Premier League table with seven points, while Eleven Wonders remain winless after three matches.
Statistically, Hearts of Oak enjoyed more of the ball with 54 percent possession compared to Wonders’ 46 percent. However, the visitors created more opportunities, registering 10 total shots against Hearts’ three. Wonders also forced goalkeeper Benjamin Asare into several saves with five shots on target, while Hearts managed three efforts on goal.
In terms of attacking set-pieces, Hearts earned ten corner kicks, double the five won by Wonders. Discipline was fairly clean, with Wonders picking up the only yellow card of the match.
Despite creating fewer chances, Hearts made their dominance in possession count and defended resolutely to secure another vital win. They now turn their attention to their next game, which is against Bechem United, while Wonders will hope to secure their first win of the season against Young Apostles next weekend.
