Voting in the keenly anticipated Tamale Central NDC primary has ended with Prof. Seidu Alidu, Associate Professor and Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, emerging as the clear winner.
Prof. Alidu secured 840 votes out of 1,551 delegates, defeating 11 other aspirants to clinch the party’s parliamentary ticket.
His closest contender, Abdul Hannan Gundado, polled 536 votes, while the remaining candidates recorded single- and double-digit tallies.

Earlier in the day, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region had rolled out strict measures to ensure a transparent and orderly process.
Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Director of Elections and IT for the region, announced the deployment of 250 joint security personnel and the use of QR-code-enabled tags for delegates.
The election follows the tragic death of the constituency’s MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a military helicopter crash on August 6.
The outcome now positions Prof. Alidu as the NDC’s candidate for the September 30 by-election, a crucial contest to retain the seat for the party.
