“Parliament Is Not a Betting House – Speaker Blasts Michael Okyere Baafi Over Resignation Talk

Speaker Bagbin lifts suspension of 4 MPs

Parliament is not a betting house. If you think you should resign, then leave quietly, but don’t insult the dignity of this House with cheap talk,” the Speaker fumed.

Political analysts argue that Michael Okyere Baafi’s reckless outburst only exposes the arrogance and unseriousness within sections of the NPP. At a time when the party is bleeding from its humiliating loss at Akwatia, many expected him to rally support and calm nerves. Instead, he has become a symbol of poor judgment and weak leadership.

Critics say his words reflect the desperation of a party that has lost touch with the realities on the ground. Rather than focusing on fixing internal cracks and winning back the confidence of Ghanaians, NPP MPs like Baafi are dragging the party deeper into ridicule.

The Speaker’s words have now amplified public calls for Baafi to live up to his promise and vacate his seat, as anything less would further stain his credibility. For many, this episode is a glaring reminder that the NPP’s so-called “big men” are fast becoming liabilities rather than assets.

At a time when Ghana needs serious leadership, the last thing citizens expect is MPs treating politics like a comedy show.
