Gov’t Making Progress In Galamsey Fight – Samuel Aborbi

56 illegal miners arrested in Tarkwa-Nsuaem crackdown

Communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Aborbi, has commended the current government’s commitment to the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem, Mr. Aborbi said it is misleading to compare the current situation with what prevailed under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. He recalled that the then Lands Minister, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, publicly admitted that illegal mining had gotten out of control under the NPP.

Mr. Aborbi stressed that the NDC government has introduced strong measures to clamp down on galamsey and restore polluted water bodies. He added that the Minister of Lands, Hon. Armah Buah, has demonstrated commitment by vowing to expose any government officials involved in illegal mining.

“Restoring our rivers and lands will take time because the NPP was in power for eight years, during which galamsey was at its worst. But today, things are under control and the government is determined to protect our environment,” he noted.
