The Chiefs of Dagbon, under the authority of His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari II, convened this morning to express deep concern over the recent demolition of property belonging to prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, near the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Addressing the media on behalf of the gathered chiefs, a senior traditional leader emphasized the gravity of the incident, describing it as a matter of national concern. He called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to reflect on the implications of such actions, especially when directed at individuals who have dedicated themselves to national development.
“Yaa Naa has expressed a very serious concern on behalf of himself and on behalf of the chiefs gathered here, and to let all and sundry in the country come to appreciate the dangers, come to appreciate what has happened to his(McDan) property as juxtapose to who his personal self is.”
Dr. McKorley, a revered son of the Dagbon kingdom, was praised for his unwavering support of the chieftaincy institution and his commitment to national unity. The chiefs highlighted his continued loyalty to Dagbon and described him as a man who has repeatedly entrusted his efforts and legacy to the people of the North.
“Many a time, he has demonstrated his togetherness with Dagbon and the people of Dagbon. Repeating severally that the kind of confidence he has put in Dagbon is out of his inner belief that he giving himself up to the people and the chiefs of Dagbon, he can drive a meaningful development agenda for the people of the area, that of his area, and the people of the entire country.”
The incident, which occurred just a week ago, left traditional authorities stunned. The chiefs expressed concern over the manner in which the demolition was carried out and described it as a blow to private sector motivation and national unity.
“To approach any problem that he has in the country in this Rambo-style is very regrettable.”
Calling on *President John Dramani Mahama*, the chiefs urged the establishment of a committee to investigate the demolition, identify those responsible, and ensure appropriate compensation for Dr. McKorley.
“Treating him this way will certainly discourage people in the country to go into a private sector, to do work, to approach the people, to unify the people and to struggle for the betterment of the country.”
They concluded by affirming that McDan is not just a businessman but a symbol of national unity and development — someone who should be celebrated, not discouraged.
