Emmanuel Boadi, Executive Director of Educate Africa Institute and an educationist, has expressed concern over the increasing number of Senior High School (SHS) graduates seeking university education without the required qualifications. Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem morning show, he noted that many private universities are more focused on student enrollment numbers than academic standards, admitting students who fail to meet basic entry requirements. “A lot of our kids don’t pass their final exams but still want to go to the university, and some schools are willing to admit them regardless,” he said.
Mr. Boadi urged parents to conduct proper checks before enrolling their children in tertiary institutions. He cautioned against choosing schools merely because they are called universities, stressing the importance of accreditation and quality. “Parents must do due diligence and confirm if the university is properly accredited. You can’t just attend any institution and expect to be recognized,” he added.
He also blamed such decisions for the increasing number of graduates who are unable to do their national service. According to him, the National Service Authority has every right to reject students from unaccredited institutions, and the responsibility falls on both parents and students to make informed choices. “That’s why many of them are not allowed to do their national service — and I solely blame them,” Mr. Boadi stated.
