Police in Tema in the early hours of Thursday July 24, 2025 foiled potential bloodbath at the Tema General Hospital when a gunman, after fatally shooting his targets at Ashaiman Tulaku, proceeded to the centre to complete the unfinished job.

Being displayed are the AK47 assault rifle, loaded double magazines and the rice sack in which the weapon was concealed to the objective, Tema General Hospital for the possible onslaught

There was a dramatic turn of events when the unknown gunman, realising that the police were closing  in on him, dropped his AK47 assault rifle, fully loaded with double magazines and fled.

The Chronicle gathered that in the night of Wednesday July 23, 2025 at about 20:00hours, an unidentified gunman opened sporadic gunfire from sophisticated assault rifle on a group of men seated at Ashaiman Tulaku, killing one of them and injuring about three.

A deep-throat source at the Tema Regional Police Command, who pleaded anonymity, named the victims as Ibrahim Mumuni (deceased), ShehuWuni and Majeed Mohammed, who were injured.

The assailant, who escaped from his position on a getaway motorbike, immediately came face to face with a known tribesman of the deceased, on another motorcycle. The latter was rushing to the scene on hearing of the shooting incident.

The gunman prompted his rider to turn and follow him, since he (gunman) could easily be linked to the shooting incident, but the deceased’s tribesman managed to escape.

Unperturbed, the gunman trailed the would-be informant, the deceased’s tribesman, to his home near Christian Village and opened yet another fire on him, and after he was taken for dead, he and the rider of the bike ran away.

Meanwhile, the earlier victims were rushed to the Tema General Hospital as well as the body of the deceased for preservation.

At the hospital, some of those injured required x-ray, laboratory services and had to be transported to Sonotech, just across the road.

At this juncture, a crowd of citizens from one of the towns in the north, numbering about fifty, mainly men, thronged the hospital to show solidarity to their tribesmen being treated at the facility.

A police intelligence person went to transport the patients from Sonotech in a service vehicle with armed men, and as they approached the entrance of the hospital gate, they spotted a parked motorbike at an obscured corner, ready to enter the health center.

Realising that a police vehicle was approaching and having thrown the headlight on them, one of the occupants of the motorcycle, carrying a sack, took to his heels.

As the police pursued him, he dropped the sack and finally escaped into the darkness, in the nearby bush.

His accomplice rider, sensing danger, also sped off with their motorbike. When the sack was opened, it was found to contain AK47 assault rifle, loaded with double magazines.

According to the police source, the motive of the suspects remains unknown, but is believed to be targeting specific individuals.
