Richard Anning, a communicator for the NPP has launched a scathing attack on the Attorney General, describing him as “the worst Attorney General ever” over the handling of the UniBank and others cases.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B FM, Anning expressed frustration over what he described as a deliberate cover-up and protection of politically exposed persons involved in the banking sector collapse.
“People invested their hard-earned money in UniBank and Beige Bank. These institutions were using depositors’ funds for other purposes, which led to the Bank of Ghana revoking their licenses. It then became the responsibility of the government to refund the affected customers,” he stated.
Richard Anning expressed deep disappointment that the founder of UniBank, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has allegedly been cleared of wrongdoing despite the financial collapse.
“This Attorney General has cleared him, and it’s unacceptable. Even if it takes 100 years and we, the NPP, are in opposition, we will make sure Dr. Duffuor is prosecuted,” he vowed.
According to Anning, claims that Dr. Duffuor has paid 60 percent of the arrears owed are not enough to absolve him of criminal responsibility.
“How can you tell us he’s paid 60% and then say his name is cleared? This is about accountability, not partial repayments,” he argued.
He accused both the NPP and NDC of shielding their political elites, saying: “Political figures on both sides are being protected by their parties. Anyone found guilty must be jailed—regardless of their affiliations.”
