Court Proceedings Begin in Narcotics Case
The Circuit Court in Accra has started a narcotics case. Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah is presiding over the hearings. Three accused persons were arrested last month during a major bust by NACOC.
The accused are Osuman Ali alias Gaza (40), Mizpah Abena Boadi (27), and Ayiku Shamsudeen alias Showdem (24). They face eight charges, including conspiracy to commit drug crimes and unlawful possession of narcotics.
Prosecution led by ASP Andrew Owusu Agyemang outlined the events. On June 18, 2025, the suspects were caught during an operation at MMG Plus Pub. This location was identified as a hotspot for illegal drug activity.
NACOC officers conducted a raid after two months of surveillance. They found various drugs, including:
– 1,251 pills suspected to be MDMA (Ecstasy)
– 10 substances believed to be Hashish
– 34 wrapped leaves thought to be Cannabis
– 19 bottles of Benylin with Codeine
– 70 tablets of Tramadol
– 35 tablets of Rophynol
– Two weighing scales and other drug paraphernalia
A Mitsubishi Pajero belonging to Ali contained more drugs and valuable items. These included gold and silver jewelry, electronic gadgets, cash amounting to GH¢9,353, laptops, iPads, and portable scales.
Field tests confirmed the presence of MDMA, cannabis, and hashish in the seized substances. The narcotics have been sent for further analysis at the Ghana Standards Authority. The restricted medicines are with the Food and Drugs Authority for verification.
Statements from Suspects
During preliminary investigations, Osuman Ali admitted ownership of most seized items. He claimed that a Nigerian national gave him the MDMA pills as collateral for a debt.
Mizpah Abena Boadi warned Ali against illegal trade but lived with him at Palladium. Ayiku Shamsudeen claimed he only sold non-alcoholic drinks; however, this was contradicted by an undercover operative who bought hashish from him.
The suspects were remanded on June 26 while investigations continued.
Bail Granted with Conditions
On July 2, 2025, Judge Adjei-Tawiah granted bail to all three suspects under strict conditions:
1. Osuman Ali: Bail set at GH¢100,000 with two sureties—one civil servant earning GH¢2,000 or more; must deposit his passport and report to police every Wednesday.
2. Mizpah Abena Boadi: Bail set at GH¢60,000 under similar conditions.
3. Ayiku Shamsudeen: Bail set at GH¢20,000 with matching surety requirements.
The court will hear the case again on July 17.
