Shut Up And Account For ECG Stewardship Before You Protest Dumsor Levy – Wereko Brobbey To Minority

Shut Up And Account For ECG Stewardship Before You Protest Dumsor Levy – Wereko Brobbey To Minority
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, a former Board Chairman of the Volta River Authority (VRA), has criticized the minority in parliament. He told them to account for their management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He stated that the minority should remain silent. They failed to hold accountable those responsible during their time in power. Speaking on TV3, he said their current problems stem from past irresponsibility.

Wereko-Brobby accused the minority of trying to influence the 2024 elections. He believes they want to mislead people about successes achieved under President Mahama.

He called on Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin to explain ECG’s losses during his tenure. Wereko-Brobby argued that Afenyo-Markin cannot criticize the government without addressing these issues first.

He emphasized that mismanagement at ECG led to significant debts in 2023 and 2024. This mismanagement should not be blamed on tariffs but on those who oversaw ECG.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced a new fuel levy starting July 16, 2025. Ghanaians will pay an additional GHC1 per litre due to this change.

A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows most Ghanaians support this increase. The poll indicates that 55% favor the suspended ‘Dumsor’ Levy, while only 22% oppose it.

John Mahama stated that this levy aims to eliminate energy sector debts and resolve ongoing crises.
