Bongo NDC Branch Women Organizers Threaten To Protest Over School Feeding ‘Neglect’ by DCE

NDC Set To Elect 2024 Flagbearer In November This Year

A group of branch women organizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo

Constituency have issued a stern warning of an impending protest against the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Joseph Abaah Akasake, over what they describe as deliberate neglect and betrayal in the selection of caterers for the government’s school feeding programme.

The aggrieved grassroots women organizers who claim to have sacrificed and remained loyal to the party through its difficult years in opposition, are outraged that their requests to be considered as caterers under the school feeding programme have been ignored. This, they allege, is despite earlier speculations  and what they believed to be a directive from the National School Feeding Coordinator to prioritize party women organizers in the selection process.

Fuming with betrayal, one branch women organizer lashed out: “You deserted the party in 2015 for PPP. We stayed loyal. Now that you’re DCE, you reward your wife and side chick but ignore us?”

According to them, over 90% of the contracts have instead been handed to men who are either directly related to or have close personal connections with the DCE, the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Tahiru, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Lawyer Charles Bawa.

One of the furious women organizers condemned the DCE, recalling his political defection in 2015. “If we had all deserted the party like you did, would you have been the DCE today?” she questioned. “You left the party for PPP in 2015 just because your favourite, who is now the MP, lost the primaries. But we stayed. We toiled and worked hard in the trenches. You returned in 2020, and now that you’ve secured a position, you’re sidelining the women who carried this party on their backs.”

The organizers have vowed not to sit idly by while what they describe as “disrespect and injustice” continues unchecked. They have threatened to embark on a demonstration if the school feeding contracts are not reviewed to fairly include the NDC’s loyal women foot soldiers in the constituency.

The women have called on national and regional executives of the party to intervene immediately before the issue spirals further, warning that continued neglect of the party’s backbone at the grassroots could cost the NDC dearly in future elections.

As tensions rise, political observers in the area are closely monitoring the situation, which may pose internal challenges for the NDC ahead of the 2026 general elections.
