One Feared Dead, 3 Security Personnel critically Injured In Violent Clashes At Gomoa Dominase

A young man is feared dead, while three others — including two police officers and an Immigration officer — are critically injured following violent clashes near the Gomoa Dominase onion market in the Central Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, May 22, 2025, during a swoop and demolition of a ghetto in the area.

The operation was a joint effort between security agencies and the District Security Coordinating Council (DISEC).

According to reports, following the demolition of the Budumburam Camp, a new ghetto had emerged near the onion market, becoming a haven for wee smokers and individuals engaged in various social vices.

Thursday’s exercise was aimed at clamping down on criminal activities after the expiration of an eviction notice in April 2025.

However, during the demolition, a young man reportedly slipped into one of the buildings unnoticed. Tragically, a structure collapsed on him, leaving him unconscious — a development that sparked outrage among residents.

Enraged locals began pelting stones, while others wielded cutlasses and other weapons, leading to injuries to three officers.

Efforts by the security personnel to restore calm were unsuccessful, as the crowd refused to back down.

The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic and the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Meanwhile, several slabs of suspected marijuana and weapons were retrieved from the scene, with scores of young men arrested for possession.
