The move is widely seen as a significant step toward greater media sovereignty in the Sahel region, allowing African nations to tell their own stories through their own voices, free from external narratives.

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) — comprising Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger — has officially launched a new media platform, AES Radio and TV, aimed at strengthening regional communication and information dissemination.

The headquarters of AES Radio and TV will be based in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, with regional offices also being established in Bamako (Mali) and Niamey (Niger).

According to officials, the initiative seeks to enhance access to accurate information, counter misinformation and terrorism, promote the region’s rich cultural heritage, and highlight key development challenges and achievements across the three countries.

The AES leadership emphasized that the launch of the station is part of broader efforts to foster unity, resilience, and progress among the peoples of the Sahel.

More details about programming and the official broadcast start date are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
