Highlighting past economic failures necessary for accountability – Issah Atta

Speaking to journalists, he addressed criticisms from the Minority, who have urged the government to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on past economic difficulties in the 2025 budget.

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Issah Atta, has defended the government’s decision to highlight the economic challenges inherited from the previous administration, arguing that it is necessary for accountability and to prevent future fiscal mismanagement.

Speaking to journalists, he addressed criticisms from the Minority, who have urged the government to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on past economic difficulties in the 2025 budget.

He stressed that assessing Ghana’s current economic situation requires an understanding of the 2024 macroeconomic indicators, making it essential to discuss the previous administration’s economic performance.

Atta further warned that failing to acknowledge past mismanagement could set a dangerous precedent, allowing future governments to act irresponsibly without consequences.

“It is important to lament some of these issues because if we don’t, we give impudence to a future government to recklessly mismanage the country and expect the succeeding government to shoulder it, irrespective of the bad governance they impose on us,” he stated.
