Asokore Mampon Hene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, has been confirmed dead.

The news of his death was confirmed by elders of the Asokore Mampong stool on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

He passed away on Thursday, February 20th, 2025, in South Africa after a short illness.

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah died a few days after the passing of the late Asokore Mampong Queen’s (Mamponhemaa) funeral.

Nana Boakye Ansah was one of the most respected chiefs in the Ashanti Region, known for his exemplary leadership and collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Asawase Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed to drive development in his traditional area.

Under his reign, Asokore Mampong was transformed into a first-class residential area in Ashanti.

His passing is considered a major blow to the Asanteman, particularly the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC)

Nana Boakye Ansah ruled for 38 years, having sworn allegiance to Asanteman with the Mponponson Sword.

He also held the title of Nifahene of the Kumasi traditional council.

The people of Asokore Mampong are predominantly Ekuona. According to tradition, in the 17th century, some Ekuonas attacked another family and, fearing retaliation, fled.

Some settled in Asokore near Effiduase, while others sought refuge in Mampon.

Through the intervention of the first Asantehene, some of them returned, leading to the formation of what is now known as Asokore Mampong.

Asokore Mampong is also home to the famous deity, Nyamekese, where the Dormaahene once served as Kradwareni (soul washer).

Nana Boakye Ansah, an architect by profession, was recognized for his significant contributions to Asanteman.

In acknowledgement of his efforts, he was granted the privilege to wear golden sandals, a mark of high esteem in Ashanti tradition.
