Our MPs need a home where they will be buried and their wickedness displayed, not a hospital – Nkrumah

Our MPs need a home where they will be buried and their wickedness displayed, not a hospital – Nkrumah

The Director of Operations of the Progressive People’s Party, Divine Nkrumah, has taken Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the cleaners over the latter’s call for a hospital dedicated to Members of Parliament (MPs) to be constructed.

He opined that the proposal by the Effutu Member of Parliament is unfortunate and should not be entertained.

Divine Nkrumah posited that the proposal reeks of a misplaced priority and superiority complex.

The minority leader has come under serious criticism for proposing that a hospital be constructed and dedicated to the medical needs of MPs.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Parliamentary Service Board for the ninth Parliament on Monday, March 17, 2025, the Effutu MP said MPs were faced with unique challenges in accessing private healthcare, hence the need for them to have a dedicated hospital to serve MPs.

“Mr Speaker, there are two things that I hope for in this ninth parliament. One is a hospital for parliament. If it does happen, according to your vision, it will be a great milestone. We are a political class, and our health issues must be known within certain confines. Because of confidentiality issues, people travel abroad at great cost for medical support. I believe if we are able to deal with this, it will help,” he stated.

But reacting to this, Divine Nkrumah questioned if Afenyo-Markin thought he would stay in the House forever.

He instead proposed the construction of a funeral home so that when the MPs die, they would be buried there so Ghanaians would remember the misdeeds or wickedness of the people of Ghana.

In a Facebook post on Facebook, he wrote ‘’Afenyo-Markin’s proposal for a hospital exclusively for MPs reeks of misplaced priorities and a superiority complex. Does he think he will remain an MP forever? Instead, I suggest building a Funeral Home for them, so they can have befitting funerals for their misdeeds.’’.
