The state has dropped treason felony charges against legal practitioner and social activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, bringing to an end over two years of legal proceedings related to his purported coup d’état plots.
He was charged following comments he made after the passage of the E-Levy.
However, the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has decided to discontinue the case.
The withdrawal of charges against Barker-Vormawor adds to the growing list of high-profile personalities who have had criminal charges against them dropped.
The list includes the former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama; former COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Stephen Opuni; and businessman Seidu Agongo.
At a recent press conference, the Attorney General emphasized that his decisions to drop criminal charges in several high-profile cases were guided by ethical considerations, legal principles, and a commitment to fairness and transparency.
