1,000 Women Die During Childbirth in Ashanti Region – GHS

Teenage Pregnancy Is Costing Lives Of Young Girls In Ghana; Parents Must Develop Interest In The Everyday Activities Of Their Wards

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported a staggering 1,000 maternal deaths in the Ashanti Region between 2020 and 2024, highlighting a persistent challenge in maternal healthcare.

Speaking at the 2024 Regional Health Forum, Regional Health Director Dr. Frank Adomanko Boateng expressed deep concern over the region’s inability to meet the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of reducing maternal mortality to 70 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2030.

“Time is not on our side as we strive to achieve this target. The clock is ticking, and we must double our efforts,” Dr. Boateng emphasized.

He called for urgent and intensified interventions over the next six years to bridge the gap and prevent further tragic losses.
