The Tema West Municipal Assembly held a grand Basic School March Parade at the Tema Mexico Astroturf to commemorate Ghana’s Independence. The event brought together students, teachers, local dignitaries, and law enforcement officials in a show of patriotism and community spirit.
The ceremony was opened by the Master of Ceremonies (MC) with a prayer, setting the tone for a solemn and meaningful event. This was followed by a short recital from students of Prince of Peace Presbyterian School, narrating Ghana’s journey to independence and the significance of the national flag’s colors.
In her welcome address, Madam Fatima Akuye Antiaye, The Deputy Director of Human Resource Management and Development Directorate (HRMD), emphasized the crucial role of education in shaping the future of young learners. She urged teachers and parents to prioritize positive growth, reminding the children that “every step you take has an influence on tomorrow.” She also commended the organizers for successfully putting together the event.
A patriotic atmosphere filled the grounds as all the participating schools stood together to sing the National Anthem, showcasing unity and national pride. The schools that took part in the parade included Mayflower International School, Catholic Education, Greenwich Preparatory School, Kotobabi No. 2,T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School, Old Lashibi Generation School, Sakumono School Complex, Sakumono SDA Basic School, Prince of Peace Presbyterian School, Star KG Primary, The Salvation Army Basic School, Baatsona TM KG, Good Shepherd School and St. John Bosco Basic School.
The parade was inspected by ASP Mark Yeboah, Tema Police Commander, who commended the students for their discipline and organization.
Also in attendance was Mr. Maxwell Kofi Adu, Special Aide to Lawyer James Enu, the Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency. Speaking on behalf of the MP, he acknowledged the dedication of teachers in Tema West and assured the gathering of continued efforts to improve education in the area.
“The teachers of Tema West are really doing well in training our children. The MP says ‘Ayekoo!’ and assures you that education will continue to bring out the best in all of us,” he stated.
The event was a remarkable celebration of Ghanaian heritage, highlighting the importance of education, discipline, and national pride in shaping the future of the country.
