NDC supporters storm GRIDCo over CEO’s appointment

NDC Set To Elect 2024 Flagbearer In November This Year

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters have stormed the premises of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) in protest against President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Mr Mark Baah as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the company.

The aggrieved group, which travelled from Tamale in the Northern Region, accused Mr Baah of being a known sympathiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), with close ties to former Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).

Speaking to the media in Tema, the group’s spokesperson Mr Osman Alhassan, alleged Mr Baah played a role in Ghana’s power crisis (dumsor), insisting despite being only two months away from retirement, he could use his position to sabotage the new Mahama administration.

The demonstrators later extended their protest to the headquarters of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Accra, demanding the immediate removal of other CEOs they believe are affiliated with the NPP.

Some party members had intentions to sleep at GRIDCo’s premises until the appointment was revoked, warning of further action if their demands were not met.
