The dangerous face of love: CHRAJ raises red flag

CHRAJ Warns: Insufficient office equipment breeds betrayal

John Ato Breboh, also known as Uncle Ato, Deputy Chief Investigator at the Tema Sub-Regional Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has warned that love can sometimes be a disguise for abuse.

In an interview with hostess Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie”, Uncle Ato cautioned that issues of love can lead to domestic violence, emphasising the need for awareness and vigilance. He also advised individuals not to compare their love experiences with others, as this can lead to heartbreak and negative consequences, such as suicide or insolence.

“Love can impair judgment, making it essential to recognize the signs of abuse,” Uncle Ato stressed. “We must promote healthy relationships and support survivors of domestic violence.”

Furthermore, Uncle Ato urged all to “live according to their strength and cut their hair according to their head”, emphasising the importance of self-awareness and realistic expectations in relationships. He highlighted stalking, threats, and murder as violent crimes that can result from unhealthy relationships, stressing the need to choose a partner carefully to meet one’s expectations in love.

According to the Ghana Health Service, domestic violence affects approximately 1 in 3 women in Ghana. CHRAJ has been working to address this issue through education, advocacy, and support services.

Uncle Ato’s warning comes as Ghana marks National Chocolate Day, a celebration aimed at promoting the country’s cocoa industry. While the day is often associated with romantic love, Uncle Ato’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of healthy relationships and mutual respect.
