Fidel Nii-Akuffo Bortey, Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Tema West, has proposed a post-election employment ban to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s electoral process.
He made the proposal during an interview with hostess Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, Nyansapɔ Fie.
According to Mr. Bortey, such a ban would help prevent the politicisation of the civil service and ensure that appointments are based on merit rather than party affiliation.
He cited the mass dismissal of employees hired after the 2016 general elections, a trend that is repeating in 2025, arguing that this pattern undermines the stability of the civil service.
“If the Constitution could be amended to include a ban on post-election employment, then unlawful entry and trespassing by some party faithful ransacking public institutions would cease,” he asserted.
In a related development, Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, the Tema Metropolitan Director of the NCCE, stressed the importance of the rule of law in maintaining peace. She noted that the absence of the rule of law undermines peace, making it essential to uphold this fundamental principle.
Badu also highlighted the need for cohesion and unity among citizens to foster democracy and development. Her call for unity aligns with her long-standing efforts to promote peace education and civic engagement in the Tema metropolis.
