A renowned relationship expert has cautioned couples against taking their partner’s love for granted, urging them to prioritise mutual respect and support.
Mary Bright Abelenma Coffie, a youth counsellor, fashion designer, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner, shared her insights on Plan B FM’s “Nyansapɔ Fie” programme, hosted by Nana Asabea.
“Love gives back what is given,” Ms Coffie emphasised. “Couples must learn and grow together, rather than becoming complacent in their relationships.”
She advised individuals to cultivate a sense of self-worth, saying: “Learn to let him appreciate you.”
Ms Coffie also encouraged couples to prioritise their relationships, saying: “Let your partner be your god and not vice versa.”
In a nod to the importance of faith in relationships, she added: “Find a way of pleasing God by pleasing man, as you can please an unbelieving husband to become a believer.”
Echoing Ms Coffie’s sentiments, Lady Elizabeth Kesewaa Nortey, Creative Director of Kess Millinery and Beads, stressed the importance of self-love in relationships. “In as much as one loves their body satisfactorily, then they certainly love everything that concerns them, including their partners,” she said. “By concentrating on their needs as well, individuals can foster a deeper sense of connection and mutual respect in their relationships.”
The experts’ comments serve as a timely reminder to couples to nurture their relationships, prioritise mutual respect and support, and cultivate a sense of self-love.
In conclusion, building and maintaining a strong, healthy relationship requires effort, commitment, and a willingness to grow together. By embracing the principles of mutual respect, self-love, and open communication, couples can foster a deeper connection and create a lasting bond. As we strive to build stronger, more loving relationships, let us remember the wise words of these experts and cultivate a culture of love, respect, and understanding.
