The Berekum-Amangoase community has been left in mourning following the tragic death of a four-year-old boy, identified only as Nana, who drowned in an abandoned water pit near his family’s home.

The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 11, 2025, around 8:00 PM. According to residents, the young boy allegedly slipped into the pit and drowned. The tragic event has sparked widespread discussions in the area, with many questioning the whereabouts of the child’s parents during the unfortunate incident.

When reporters visited the neighborhood on Wednesday, February 12, the atmosphere was one of sorrow, as mourners filled the family home to offer their condolences. The boy’s parents were inconsolable as the community grieved alongside them.

In an interview with Kwaku Ronney, the Assemblyman for the Amangoase Electoral Area, he confirmed that the police had been informed. Authorities retrieved the boy’s body and transported it to a mortuary.

Concerned residents expressed frustration, pointing out that the abandoned pit is located near a popular playfield for local children. They urged the Berekum Municipal Assembly to take immediate action to close the pit and prevent further tragedies.
