Ketu South: ECG worker implicated in meter deal – accused of fraudulently taking monies from residents

With the issue of middlemen and contractors plaguing the nation’s power supplier, many have been calling for an overhaul of the company to restructure it’s operations to ensure it’s credibility.

A Technical Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana at the Ketu South Municipali office in the Volta region, who doubles as an Independent Contractor, Evans Kweku Mensah, has been implicated in a deal involving the supply of ECG Meters to residents in the area.

Mensah has been accused by several residents in the area of defrauding them under the pretex of securing them ECG Meters.

The latest victim to fall prey to Mensah’s criminal acts is Apostle Anthony Anyidoho, Volta regional President of the Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body (GRIB).

Apostle Anyidoho accused the suspect of taking GH¢ 5,600 (Five Thousand Six Hundred Ghana Cedis from him since 2023, to supply him a domestic ECG Meter, but has since failed to honour his obligations, adding that several calls to the suspect on the progress of his Meter have also gone unheeded as Mensah has refused to answer his calls or reply to his Whatsapp messages all these while.

Apostle Anyidoho said he became suspicious and apprehensive of Mensah’s attitude towards him over the two years since he took the money, compelling him to lodge a formal complaint against the suspect at the Ketu South Divisional Police Command, which case was confirmed to Ghananewsonline.com.gh by the command’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Apostle Anthony Anyidoho revealed that when the suspect (Mensah) was invited by the Divisional Police for questioning, he admitted to taking the said amount after which he was remanded by the Police.

The suspect, according to Apostle Anthony Anyidoho was cautioned by the Police and advised to take immediate steps to refund the money. He was also asked to return to the Divisional Police Command in three days to meet with the complaint to discuss the repayment plan, but the accused has since failed to visit the Police station or even make contacts with the victim his bail, but the Police seem not to care, raising concerns about the commitment of the Police to get to the bottom of the issue.

Apostle Anthony Anyidoho’s frustrations are not isolated as many people across the country have over the years accused ECG and it’s workers of underhand dealings in the allocation of its Meters to prospective clients.
