The Goaso Traditional Council has announced a ban on public Valentine’s Day celebrations within the Goaso traditional area as part of preparations for the one-week observance of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.
The late chief, who reigned for 17 years, passed away in December 2024 after a prolonged illness. His death was officially announced by Otumfuo’s linguist, Kyeame Antwi Boasiako, during an Asanteman Council meeting on December 16, 2024.
In a statement addressing the public, the Council emphasized that Valentine’s Day festivities, including lodging in hotels, loud celebrations, and parties, are strictly prohibited.
“If you wish to celebrate Valentine’s Day, do it quietly in your room. No noisy celebrations, no Valentine parties. Anyone caught flouting these rules will face severe sanctions,” the Council warned.
The ban, according to the Council, is to ensure unity and respect as the community mourns the late chief.
“We are in mourning. A section of us cannot mourn while others make merry,” the spokesperson added.
The one-week observance of Nana Kwasi Bosomprah’s passing is expected to draw traditional leaders, dignitaries, and community members to honor his legacy and contributions to the Goaso Traditional Area.
