A tragic incident occurred following Asante Kotoko’s defeat to Nsoatreman on Sunday, January 2, 2025, as a passionate supporter of the club was stabbed to death.

According to an official statement released by the club, the fan was fatally stabbed during an altercation after the match.

Multiple reports indicate that the deceased, identified as ‘Pooley’, was stabbed five times and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital despite efforts to save his life.

The circumstances leading to the attack remain unclear, but eyewitness accounts suggest that tensions flared between rival supporters after the game, escalating into violence.

Security personnel at the venue reportedly struggled to control the situation.

Asante Kotoko has since condemned the incident and called for calm among its supporters. The club has also urged authorities to swiftly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The off-field tragedy compounded an earlier on-field brawl, in which Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC players exchanged punches during the match.

In a video shared by Hussein Adams, a fan at the stadium, Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was seen punching two Nsoatreman players on the sidelines.

Kotoko captain Justice Blay then joined the altercation, engaging in a scuffle with several Nsoatreman players, while home fans hurled objects at the visiting team.

As a result, Camara and Blay were both sent off. Kotoko later suffered another red card, finishing the game with eight players and ultimately losing 1-0.
