COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah sacked as EOCO’s Executive Director

President John Dramani Mahama has terminated the appointment of COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has been directed to be reassigned within the Ghana Police Service.

She has been instructed to hand over her duties and return to the Ghana Police Headquarters for reassignment.

Speaker Bagbin made this known on the floor of parliament on Friday January 24, 2025.

COP Addo-Danquah’s appointment as EOCO Executive Director took effect on January 5, 2022. She succeeded Steve Raymond Dapaa-Addo, who was appointed as Director-General of EOCO on July 9, 2021.

Before her appointment to EOCO, COP Addo-Danquah served as the Director-General of the Police Professional and Standards Bureau.

COP Addo-Danquah joined the Ghana Police Servicein 1990 and is known for being the first woman Commandant of the Ghana Police Command and Staff College (GPCSC) in Winneba.

She has also served as the administrator at the Police Hospital and headed the Commercial Crime Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s controversial bust

In October 2024, social media users criticised staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following the unveiling of a bust in honour of COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.

Netizens questioned the achievements and policies of COP Addo-Danquah that warranted such an honour.

Staff of EOCO unveiled the bust to show appreciation for COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s contributions to staff welfare within the institution.

The inscription accompanying the bust read, “Obaatanpa Tiwaa Gardens to the Glory of God, dedicated to COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah (Mrs) by the entire staff of EOCO in appreciation of her invaluable contribution to the welfare of the members of staff on Friday, 18th October 2024.”

The bust, which has been the subject of public debate since its unveiling, was reported to have been destroyed on January 7, 2025, by some unknown persons.
