Mohammed Abdul Salaam has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), following the resignation of Sammi Awuku.

This appointment was made by President John Dramani Mahama and takes immediate effect, according to sources available to us.

Salaam, who previously ran for parliamentary office in the Tamale North Constituency and served as the metro manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), brings with him a wealth of experience.

His appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the NLA, an important body that regulates and oversees lottery activities in Ghana.

The leadership change comes in the wake of Sammi Awuku’s resignation, which was officially submitted to the presidency on January 13, 2025.

Awuku, who served as the Director General of the NLA during the Akufo-Addo administration, explained that his decision to step down was due to his election as Member of Parliament for Akuapem North in the 2024 general elections.

Awuku expressed that his new role as an MP would require his full attention, particularly in serving his constituents.
