Don’t fear ORAL if you haven’t stolen – Ablakwa to Afenyo-Markin

Ablakwa flags suspicious GH¢60 million payment transferred to Presidency for ‘special operations’

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has responded to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s criticism of Operation Root All Loot (ORAL), a team established by President Mahama to investigate corruption.

Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, had described the anti-corruption initiative as unnecessary and lacking legal backing.

In his closing remarks ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament, Afenyo-Markin emphasised the importance of upholding due process in the country.

ORAL, a key component of President-elect Mahama’s anti-corruption agenda, aims to recover assets and funds allegedly misappropriated by officials of the Akufo-Addo administration.

In response, Ablakwa, who also serves as the Chairman of the ORAL team, defended the initiative during an interview with GHOne TV. He countered that those who have not engaged in corruption have nothing to fear.

Ablakwa further questioned why senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were welcoming the ORAL initiative, asserting that those not involved in corrupt practices had no reason to worry.

“If you haven’t taken anything that belongs to the Ghanaian people, you don’t have to fear ORAL. If you haven’t taken the people’s lands, the people’s hotels, the people’s forest, the people’s cars and monies…., then you have nothing to fear. You shouldn’t be raving and ranting. All these sleeplessness and restlessness, it’s all suspicious. Why are senior members of the NPP welcoming ORAL. Those who have not engaged in kleptocracy are not worried about ORAL.”
