In an effort to strengthen security for the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, the National Security has imposed a ban on the operation and use of drones at the ceremony grounds.

According to the Ministry of National Security, the restriction applies to all types of drones, including both recreational and commercial ones.

The information was contained in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Information on January 2, 2025.

“The Ministry of National Security announces a directive prohibiting the operation of drones at the presidential inaugural ceremony on January 7, 2025.

“The Ministry forbids the operation of drones at the Black Star Square and its surrounding areas during the ceremony. This restriction applies to all types of drones, including recreational and commercial ones,” the statement read.

The Ministry explained that the directive aims to ensure the safety and security of the general public, as well as the dignitaries from all walks of life who have been invited to attend the event.

“During the inauguration ceremony, this directive seeks to ensure the safety and security of visiting guests, dignitaries, and the public.”

In conclusion, National Security assured Ghanaians of its commitment to providing a safe environment for the swearing-in ceremony and urged drone operators to comply with and adhere to the directive.

“The Ministry of National Security is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for the presidential inauguration. We entreat all drone operators to cooperate with this directive and respect the security measures,” it added.

President-elect John Dramani Mahama will be sworn into office on January 7, 2025, along with the newly elected Members of Parliament.
