One person has been arrested at the scene of the fire outbreak at Kantamanto for reportedly looting items.

In a video making rounds online, the suspect, believed to be in his twenties, was found with a knife after a thorough body search.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the suspect, along with others, was seen looting items from shops affected by the fire.

Despite his resistance and attempts to avoid being handcuffed, the police seized the knife and arrested him.

His arrest comes after a devastating fire ravaged the Kantamanto market, causing huge damage to several shops and properties.

The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that the fire, which broke out around 1 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2024, has been contained, though efforts continue to prevent further destruction.

At the time of the latest update, thirteen fire tenders were on-site battling the intense flames.

Firefighting teams are reportedly working tirelessly to control the fire and stop it from spreading.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the origin and assess the full extent of the damage.
