Tema ECG loses cables to fire

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has explained that a temporary power outage experienced in some parts of Tema in the Greater Accra Region on New Year’s eve was a result of a fire outbreak which has destroyed some major power cables in the area.

The fire, which was reportedly seen behind the Lube Oil Company in Tema around 5pm on Tuesday, has ravaged the cables.

This caused the temporary power cut in areas such as Adjetey Ansah, the Naval Quarters, Aunty Kate, Leonardo, and Bankuman.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Region of the power distributor, Ms. Sakyiwaa Mensah said the timely intervention the Ghana National Fire Service helped to curtail the fire.

“The extent of damage is still being assessed. Until this assessment is done, it will be difficult for us to ascertain the cost associated,” she said.
