President Akufo-Addo approves visa-free entry to Ghana for all African nationals

I won’t change my focus as President -Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved visa-free entry to Ghana for all African nationals.

He granted an executive approval on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Ghana will join Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin as the only African countries offering visa-free entry to all African passport holders.

This is in fulfilment of his promise to introduce visa-free travel for citizens of all African nations to Ghana during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in January 2024.

This is to improve the free movement of people, goods, and services across the continent, a move that would drive the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by ensuring economic integration.

The policy is set to take effect before the end of Akufo-Addo’s term on January 6, 2025.

President Akufo-Addo stressed Ghana’s commitment to the visa-free initiative in his APD 2024 keynote address, delivered under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade.”

“Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he said, adding that “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year.”
