Hearts of Oak bounced back from their painful defeat against archrivals Asante Kotoko SC with a commanding 3-1 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Friday night at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The win marked a return to form for the Phobians after a two-game winless streak, reigniting their aspirations to challenge for the league title.
Head coach Aboubakar Ouattara made notable changes to the squad that narrowly lost to Kotoko, handing goalkeeper Sharif Shuaib his first start of the season in place of first-choice Benjamin Asare, who is with the Ghana camp preparing for the CHAN 2024 qualifier against Nigeria.
Ransford Mensah and Ahmed Ramzy Yussif were also restored to the starting lineup for the clash against Chelsea.
Ahmed Ramzy Yussif broke the deadlock with his maiden goal for Hearts, giving the Rainbow club an early lead in the 16th minute.
Striker Hamza Issah extended the advantage five minutes into the second half, but Chelsea fought back with Emmanuel Sarpong, reducing the deficit in the 62nd minute.
Despite Chelsea’s efforts, Hearts sealed the win in the 81st minute when substitute Kwabena Boateng scored a fine goal to secure the three points.
The result lifts the Phobians back into contention in the title race.
