President-elect John Mahama has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain consistency and fairness in resolving disputes over parliamentary election results in nine constituencies.
According to a report by MyJoyOnline on Friday, December 20, 2024, speaking on the issue, Mr. Mahama highlighted the importance of adhering to established principles and applying rules uniformly.
He stressed that any deviation from standard procedures could undermine public trust in the electoral process.
Referring to precedents from previous elections, Mr. Mahama cited the 2020 Techiman South incident, where a declaration was made amid chaotic conditions.
He pointed out that the EC had refused to conduct a re-collation in that case, arguing that once a declaration is made, it stands.
“There can’t be any re-collation once a declaration has been made,” Maham stated.
The President-elect’s comments come amidst heightened tensions, as political parties continue to contest results in several constituencies.
Mahama urged all stakeholders to respect the electoral process and called for a resolution that prioritizes fairness and justice.
