The Assembly Member for the Padmore Electoral Area in the Tema Metropolitan Assembly of the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Charles Amos, has appealed to the Local Government to prioritize the payment of Assembly Members.
In an interview with Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem show on Thursday, 19 December 2024, Hon. Amos stated that while some Assembly Members of the 8th Assembly of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly have received their ex-gratia, others are still waiting and have been assured they will receive theirs by the end of the week.
“Members of Parliament are mandated to make laws, but when it comes to development, that responsibility lies with the MMDCEs and Assembly Members. Yet, we are being neglected,” he noted.
Hon. Amos expressed his disappointment with how Assembly Members are treated by the Local Government, emphasizing the challenges they face in executing their duties.
“There is an outbreak of cholera, and as we speak, I am planning to organize a clean-up exercise, but financial support is limited,” he explained.
He further appealed to the Local Government to provide regular salaries for Assembly Members instead of just sitting allowances and to grant them access to developmental funds to ensure the proper use of resources
