Election 2024: NDC’s Ebi Bright condemns proposed ballot recount as “ridiculous” and “absurd”

Election 2024: NDC’s Ebi Bright goes hard on Charles Forson; describes him as “gullible and incompetent”

Ebi Bright, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Tema Central, has expressed strong reservations about the proposed recount of ballots in the recent parliamentary elections. She deemed the recount “ridiculous”, “absurd” and “illegal” during an interview with host Obidehyie Kofi Sekyi on Plan B FM’s political programme ‘Nkɔsoɔnsɛm’.

Bright secured 18,539 votes, narrowly defeating her opponent Charles Forson, who garnered 18,421 votes. Despite her victory, the electoral process was marred by controversy, with the Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer, Ofusehene Asante Manasseh, alleging that he was coerced by NDC members to declare Bright the winner.

Bright emphasised that only a court of competent jurisdiction has the authority to annul or reverse a declared winner, not an EC Officer. She also questioned the legitimacy of the petition filed by Manasseh, citing the presence of 150 police personnel and the Greater Accra Regional Minister during the declaration.

“I have seen my opponent come out with flyers and sent bulk text messages that he has won the Tema Central Constituency seat, but I am not surprised as the NPP is known to possess a culture of tyranny, and their PC is behaving childishly and throwing tantrums, but it will not stand the test of the day,” she declared.
