Samuel Aborbi, a communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed the party’s plans to amend Ghana’s Constitution to introduce a region-based system for determining presidential election winners.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem with host Kofi Sakyi, Mr. Aborbi explained that under the proposed system, a presidential candidate would automatically win the election by securing victories in the majority of regions across the country.
He argued that this initiative would ensure greater regional representation and equity in governance. “If you win more regions, then you will automatically win the elections,” Mr. Aborbi emphasized, underscoring the NDC’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and regional balance.
If implemented, the proposal would mark a significant departure from the current electoral framework, where the winner is determined by the highest number of total valid votes nationwide.
