Muhammad Hussain Acquah, Headteacher of T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School in Tema and National Preaching Secretary of Ansarullah, Ghana, has underscored the vital role of care in relationships, noting that “without caring, love is boring.”
In an interview on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle programme, “Nyansapɔ Fie,” Hussain Acquah discussed the importance of care in marriages with presenter Nana Asabea. He identified a lack of care as a primary source of disappointment in marriages.
“Love in marriages begins to dwindle when care diminishes,” he explained. “Spouses must also recognise that without honesty, love is not joyful. Reciprocity is essential in relationships to avoid disappointment.”
Hussain Acquah further identified common causes of disappointment in relationships, including:
– Unmet emotional needs
– Feeling unheard, unseen, or unvalidated
– Lack of intimacy
“To build strong, lasting relationships, it’s crucial to avoid these pitfalls,” he advised.
May Bright Coffie, a youth counsellor, fashion designer, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner, also shared her expertise. She emphasised the importance of creating a peaceful and harmonious environment in relationships by avoiding disappointments.
According to Coffie, harbouring past grievances and disappointments can be detrimental to relationships. Drawing from her experience in ADR, she noted: “We don’t keep records of settled disputes; instead, we destroy them in the presence of the parties involved. People should adopt this approach in their relationships to make them stronger.”
Coffie also highlighted the significance of fulfilling promises in a timely manner. “Individuals who consistently postpone fulfilling their promises ultimately end up disappointing their partners,” she cautioned.
