Angry youth in Nkwanta South have detained an unidentified Chinese men who was caught attempting to transport DRIP equipment intended for the Nkwanta North and South Assemblies out of town.

According to eyewitnesses, the foreigner was seen loading the equipment, meant for improving road infrastructure in both districts, onto vehicles in what appeared to be a coordinated effort to remove the materials from the area.

The DRIP equipment, launched by President Akufo-Addo alongside the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Felix Owusu-Gyimah, in Nkwanta South, is part of an initiative to enhance road conditions in the Oti Region.

The launch event, held at the Municipal Assembly, was attended by traditional chiefs, community leaders, and residents, all eager to witness the introduction of machinery aimed at improving the region’s roads.

In an attempt to prevent the illicit transport, the youth, who had been monitoring the situation, quickly intervened and detained the suspect.

Local reports suggest the youth blocked the vehicles and contacted authorities, alerting them to the suspicious activity.

In a video captured at the scene, the youth can be seen questioning the foreigner about who instructed him to transport the equipment out of the region, but he refused to provide any answers or reveal any names.

“We will not allow our resources to be taken away like this,” one of the youth leaders stated.

“The equipment is meant for the development of our districts, and we will not stand by and watch it be misused or diverted.”
