Plunders of state resources must be held accountable – Murtala

I have a problem with Fifi Kwetey’s WhatsApp line-up of loyal NDC MPs – Murtala

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Honorable Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has called for the prosecution and accountability of leaders who have misappropriated the country’s resources.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Murtala emphasised that governance should be focused on the betterment and development of the nation, not as an opportunity for theft and exploitation.

“I expect to see some prosecution. All those who plundered the resources of this country ought to account for what they have done. Political leadership is not an opportunity to steal or rob the state. It is an opportunity to serve. All those who have plundered this country’s resources ought to face the full rigors of the law,” he stated.

The MP criticised the outgoing government, describing their actions as corrupt and a form of theft that has negatively impacted the lives of Ghanaians.

He noted that the people had expressed their dissatisfaction with the administration through their votes for former President Mahama.

Murtala also reaffirmed his support for former President Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy, stating it was a plan that would continue to benefit the country.

On the issue of unemployment, he highlighted the rise in joblessness under the current government.

According to him, then the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office, the unemployment rate stood at 8.4%. however, it has now surged to an estimated 16-17%.

“The people have demonstrated their willingness and preparedness to stop corruption through voting for the NDC. We are spending about $500 million importing rice and poultry products into this country. The unemployment rate they took from the NDC at 8.4% is around 16 to 17% currently. I mean, the country is in a total mess,” he lamented.

The MP also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the voters of Tamale Central, especially those from the NPP, for re-electing him.

He assured them of his continued hard work, humility, and availability to serve their needs.

“What it tells me is that the people really appreciate what we have done for them, and I want to thank the NPP people in Tamale Central who voted for me. See them and I will continue to do the work I do and for the reason they voted for me,” he concluded.
