Lady Rev. Charlotte Hanson, in a recent interview with Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s social and lifestyle show ‘Nyansapɔ Fie,’ spoke out against the negative impacts of character assassination and the importance of fact-checking information before sharing it on social media.
She emphasised that character assassination can have severe consequences and that divine intervention is necessary to restore a reputation once it has been damaged. Hanson also highlighted the role of social media in amplifying character assassination, as false information can spread quickly and have long-lasting effects.
She advised young individuals to be mindful of the impact their words and actions can have on others and to seek to build each other up rather than tear each other down. Her advice includes being cautious when dealing with information online, as the internet never forgets, and to always verify the accuracy of information before sharing it to avoid causing harm to others.
Prophet Ebenezer Dunamis, Head Pastor of Army of God Revival Centre, shared his insights on character assassination, highlighting that it often occurs within one’s close circles, fuelled by envy and leading to rumours that can damage someone’s reputation.
He revealed that he is a victim of character assassination, which was later revealed to be based on false rumours. Interestingly, he noted that sometimes pastors are behind the spread of fake news, using it to tarnish the reputations of their fellow pastors.
“Until the mature ones confront you with such rumours for you to speak on your part, the people are likely to collapse your establishment and your hard-earned reputation,” Prophet Dunamis emphasised.
“It is always important to address false rumours and misconceptions promptly, as failure to do so can lead to irreparable damage,” he urged.
He urged leaders and individuals to prioritise truth, honesty, and open communication to prevent character assassination and promote a culture of integrity and trust.
In conclusion, both Lady Rev. Charlotte Hanson and Prophet Ebenezer Dunamis stressed the devastating consequences of character assassination and the need for vigilance, fact-checking, and accountability, particularly in the digital age. Their advice serves as a timely reminder to cultivate empathy, build each other up, and seek truth and verification before sharing information. By doing so, we can create a more supportive and trustworthy community, both online and offline.
