Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has received a five-match suspension from the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee due to unsporting behaviour towards match officials.
The suspension follows incidents during Lions’ matchday 7 clash with Karela United at Tamale’s Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where Hayford allegedly directed verbal abuse at the referees. Along with the ban, Hayford has been fined GHC 5,000 and warned that any further misconduct could lead to even stricter penalties.
This ruling sidelines Hayford from the team’s upcoming fixtures against Berekum Chelsea, Accra Lions, Legon Cities, Samartex, and Basake Holy Stars. His expected return to the touchline will be for Heart of Lions’ December 24 match against Young Apostles.
Hayford’s absence presents a fresh challenge for Heart of Lions as they look to build on their recent form, including a recent victory over his former club, Asante Kotoko, just one day before the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. The club has not yet released an official response regarding the suspension.
