“We did it for God and Country” – Okudzeto Ablakwa celebrates Labadi Beach Hotel’s record dividend payment to SSNIT

Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Nine-step Approach To Raise GHS6.9bn Without E-levy

Following the announcement by the Labadi Beach Hotel, that it has paid GH¢16.51 million as dividend to its sole shareholder, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has reacted.

“Our Labadi Beach Hotel remains profitable, and the great news is all Ghanaians get to benefit from its profitability instead of a few State Capture politicians. We did it for God and Country. Ghana First,” Mr Ablakwa posted on Facebook.

Mr. Ablakwa had publicly opposed a proposed 60 per cent sale of six hotels owned by SSNIT, which included the Labadi Beach Hotel.

SSNIT had invited private participation on the grounds that the hotels were no longer profitable and a drain on its investments and therefore needed private capital injection to make it viable.

Mr Ablakwa had led a street protest, against the sale.

The board eventually suspended the decision to sale the 60 per cent stake in the six hotels.

SSNIT initially intended to divest a 60% stake in Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Trust Lodge Hotel to raise capital for improvement and management.

Presenting the check at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) recently, the Managing Director of Labadi Beach Hotel, David Eduaful, said the feat was a remarkable one that underscored the hotel’s unwavering commitment to excellence, and solidified its position as the flagship of Ghana’s hospitality industry.

“Our success reflects our dedication to delivering unparalleled experiences and value to our stakeholders,” he said. Mr Eduaful, who is also the CIMG Marketing Man of the Year 2023, declared: “Every accolade and satisfied guests are testament to the passion and commitment of our entire team.”

Triumph, recognition

The year has been one of triumph and recognition for the hotel. The hospitality facility was honoured with prestigious awards, including the CIMG Hospitality Facility of the Year 2023, Five-Star Hotel of the Year (both Regional and National) from the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Hospitality Company of the Year,by Globe Productions.

“We’re excited about what’s ahead,” said Eduaful.“With the support of our Board and the resilience of our team, Labadi Beach Hotel is poised to scale new heights, redefining excellence and
luxury at every turn.”
