Bawku Naba bans NPP campaign activities, accuses party of being behind tension in Bawku

Bawku Naba bans NPP campaign activities, accuses party of being behind tension in Bawku

The Kusag Traditional Council has suspended all campaign activities of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its traditional areas.

The overlord of the Bawku kingdom, Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, in a statement read on his behalf, warned his subjects against participating in any campaign activity of the NPP.

He accused the NPP and its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of being behind the recent tensions at Bawku, which has led to the killing of about 15 people.

He accused Dr. Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the NPP, and his party of being behind Seidu Abagri, who is at the centre of all the troubles at Bawku.

“We see Seidu Abagri as a criminal, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is to be held responsible for the resurgence of the Bawku conflict, which led to the loss of lives and property within this period. We call on all our people who are members of the NPP in all the six constituencies of Kusal to suspend all political activities until further notice. We also urge all our people in the six constituencies to distance themselves from all activities relating to Dr. Bawumia and his political activities until further notice,” the statement said in part.

The king went on to say that Kusasis want to cease all engagements with the Mamprusi community at Bawku.

He added that any individual who is seen going into the home of Seidu Abagri does so at his own peril.

“We hereby declare our intention to sever all ties with the settler Mamprusi community at Bawku forthwith in all aspects, including commerce, i.e. trading, and other forms of engagements.

“Any individual who steps forth in the house of Seidu Abagri is to face the full consequences from Kusal when he or she steps out from Abagri’s house,” he added.

He also indicated that Kusasis would not stand by for a king to be imposed on them, adding that they are going to do all that they can to protect their land.

“Currently, rumours have it that a state of emergency is likely to be imposed on Bawku through the influence of His Excellency the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to wipe us out in our own land to the satisfaction of his kinsmen.

“Just as indicated earlier, we will not be surprised if this rumour comes to fruition. In conclusion, we urge all Kusasis within Kusao and around the world to remain resolute in our collective and legitimate quest to protect, uphold, and defend our customs, traditions, and dignity as a people. We have our land and no other tribe, and I repeat, no other tribe can rule us forever and ever.”
