2024 election: Court injuncts Cynthia Morrison

Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Agona West Constituency has threatened to resign from the party.

This comes after she decides to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.

Having successfully contested and won the seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 and 2020, she lost the primary in 2024, which triggered her decision to run as an independent candidate.

The decision has not sat well with members of her political party. Some party supporters have openly chastised her for unexpected decision.

According to Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, the independent parliamentary candidate for Gomoa Central, Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison is considering resigning from the party. He made this staggering revelation in a Facebook post.

He mentioned that the NPP MP had confided in him that she had already prepared her resignation letter and would leave the party if the harassment did not stop.

Giving the close numbers in Parliament, Kwame A-Plus added that Cynthia Mamle Morrison intends to punish the NPP by resigning so the opposition National Democratic Congress can get the upper hand in the lawmaking chamber.

“Honorable Cynthia Morrison has asked me to convey a message to Afenyo Markin: if they continue to misbehave, she will resign from the party today, which would leave the NPP as the minority in parliament. She has already prepared her resignation letter and wants them to know that the decision is now in their hands,” part of Kwame A-Plus’ post reads.

Meanwhile, Cynthia Mamle Morrison’s eligibility to contest Agona West as an independent parliamentary candidate is in limbo as a District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru, has issued an injunction against her candidacy.
