PAC refers two schools to Attorney-General for prosecution

Last updated: October 3, 2024 8:40 am

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, has referred Swedru School of Business and College of Community Health  Nurses Training, Winneba to the Attorney General’s department for prosecution.

PAC gave the directive when the two Schools appeared before it at Takoradi, where the Committee is probing the Auditored Reports of 2023 on Technical Universities, Colleges of Education, Senior High Schools, and Municipal and District Assemblies from Central and Western Regions.

Further, the Audit Report has cited Swedru School of Business for procuring stationary items in excess without following laid down rules in accordance with the Procurement Act. The School authorities have disputed the Audit report adding that, they provided alternative quotations to the Auditors. PAC vehemently rejected this claim and emphasized that the School did not make the said  documents available at the time of the audit. Also the Institution misfiled the alternative quotations

The PAC Chairman said “What stationary items did you procure to the tune of One Hundred and Eighty Three Thousand Cedis, is it for one examination or series of Examinations?” “This is a serious matter, I am going to refer you to Attorney-General for prosecution.”

PAC has also ordered a supplier who failed to deliver school uniforms to the School to supply them  by the end of October and stressed that failure on her part will attract prosecution, PAC warned.

Additionally,College of Community Health Nurses Training, Winneba, has also been sanctioned on different counts of infractions, where the entities approved above their threshold thereby breaching the procurement law.

The School procured School fabrics amounting to Ghc 2,227.29. Mr. Avedzi said “We are going to sanction you under the procurement law in accordance to section 92, next time when you are procuring you will do the right thin
