The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, has decried the level of hypocrisy characterising the Ghanaian society in terms of calling out the ills of the Akufo-Addo-led government.
Speaking to supporters of the NDC in the Okaikwei North Constituency as part of his ongoing campaign in the Greater Accra Region, Mahama said the level of graft witnessed under the current administration would have resulted in a military takeover if the same happened under an NDC government.
“I am saying this; if this level of corruption and bribery were happening under an NDC government, by now soldiers would have overthrown our government.
“I tell you, the corruption and thievery happening under the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government, if it were to happen under an NDC government, the government would be overthrown,” he added.
The former president further called out previously vocal voices who seem to have lost their voices under the current government, noting that they will somehow appear again when the NDC returns to power.
“We always point out the hypocrisy of our society, and while I am confident that the NDC will win the upcoming election, you wait until we assume power, you will see all those who lost their voices during the NPP era suddenly regain their voices,” he stated.
Former President Mahama has on various occasions expressed concerns over the failure of critical voices, including Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), to speak up against the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, this has given the president and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) the license to engage in mis-governance.
